and furthermore
Also my leg still hurts from yesterday. And I have my period. And I just waited forty-five fucking minutes to talk to someone and didn’t get to, because his last meeting was running late. And I had to leave to go to another meeting. That runs until 8 PM. Grump grump GRUMP.
still partly cloudy
I am still not having a good day. After the incident with not getting the drivers’ license, I didn’t manage to do anything much productive. The fever rose to about 100 last night, not enough to worry about but enough to make me feel crappy, and unable to read anything moderately complex. Something I wrote […]
the intractable paperwork circle, or, Dichroic grumps
Despite all the opportunities listed above, some days I hate this country. Today I finallywent to exchange my US driver’s license for a Dutch one. I meant to do it last week but couldn’t because I was too busy. I couldn’t do it before then because I had to get my 30% tax ruling. I […]
a fearsome listing
My life has been a little surreal lately, if I stop to think about it. In the past six months, I’ve been in St. Peter’s Basilica, the Duomo in Milan, Westminster Abbey, Notre Dame and more than a few other cathedrals and churches. I’ve been to the Louvre, the British Museum, the Rijksmuseum, the National […]
back from Paris
Our last guests leave tomorrow, and I *promise* that I will finally work on writeups of the Brugge, London and Paris trips, with pictures. The most notable thing about the Paris trip was wa seemed like a quite inordinate amount of time spent standing in line in the rain. However, now I have been up […]
prices paid
I have redeemed myself, exercise-wise: in the past week, I’ve rowed 30 km or a little more (on the erg, in an eight and in a quad) plus I’ve cycled about 35 km. I ought to start riding to and from work more often now that the weather’s more conducive to it; maybe I can […]
blanket update
First, an update pic of the blanket. I spent this morning’s commute weaving in some of those many loose ends. Pretty quick, considering I only started it last Thursday. For reference, you can just see the edges of one of those interlocking foam mats it’s sitting on; each square is about 24″ wide. There was […]
distances achieved
The blanket continues to grow apace; the first and second rows are done and I’m halfway through the third. I don’t think this blanket will be square after all; it’s longer than I expected, so if I make it as wide as it is long, it will be enormous and more importantly, will take forever […]
update fragments
Mom’s gone, She-Hulk and her friend are here. We hadn’t met the friend before, but she seems to be very laid-back, low-maintenance and easy to get along with. They were jet-lagged, so we had a quiet day yesterday, though we did get She-hUlk on a bike and drag her out to see our canal and […]
mitering
The baby blanket is going very fast – with what you see here pls a couple of squares I haven’t joined on yet, I’m more than a tenth done. Of the patterns I posted below, I decided to do IV. It’s one of my favorites, but it also has a couple of useful features; the […]
