cotton fluff and heavy insulation

Someone called me “redoubtable” today. I think he meant it as a compliment; I like it, anyway.

I feel more like a dizzy broad, though, literally. Not sure if it has anything to do with too much erging, fighting off allergies, or not enough sleep but my vertigo (BPPV, nothing serious) has been back the last couple of days. 40 km on the erg over the weekend means even *almost* 8 hours a night doesn’t quite cut it, and last night I got considerably less. I went out to dinner with some people I know from work, so got home a bit late anyway. They were working on the apartment elevator and cut off the building’s power at midnight. The robovac wasn’t perfectly placed to recharge – it’s fussy that way – and started beeping, which woke me up, then the steady thudding from the maintenance kept me up a while. It was cold, too. I woke up at 5:40, decided to go back to sleep, got up an hour later, had a telecon with someone in the US, erged for an hour and still got to work by 9:30. Pretty good, but it does feel as if my brains were lined with cotton fluff. Maybe I can get to bed early tonight.

At least I’m not freezing at work today. After yesterday’s unpleasant Arctic experience, I took the nuclear option. Today I am wearing: a thermal-underwear shirt, Polarfleece tights, a light sweater, a short wool kilt, wool socks, boots – and my new 700-weight down jacket with a fleece blanket on my lap.
