There is a meme that asks, “If you had me alone, locked up in your house, for twenty-four hours and I had to do whatever you wanted me to, what would you have me/you/us do?” Don’t worry, I won’t be posting it, not even one of the non-creepy variants like “if you came to visit me for a day, what would you like to do together?” or “if you had my attention for 24 hours, what would you like to do?”. While the original version asks for information I have no desire to know, I’m even less likely to post one of the others – because it would crush me if I posted one and no one answered.

Tonight we will spend the evening with some friends here and then, weather permitting, we’ll all go somewhere TBD to watch the fireworks at Taipei 101 – probably the river park near our house, because I have no desire at all to venture into the mayhem of downtown. Tomorrow, Ted and I will wake up slowly, have mimosas, maybe put a brisket in the crockpot, and spend a pleasant day doing nothing much. If I had my wishes, though, I’d still spend New Years Day watching the Only Right Thing to watch on that day, and it isn’t college football or even pro hockey. I’d spend the day watching the Mummers Parade, probably on TV since it’s bloody cold on Broad Street on January 1. Or rather, I’d spend the day in front of a TV showing the Parade, and maybe I’d work some on a jigsaw puzzle or read and knit, because no one can really watch all of a 10-plus-hour parade but I like to look at it now and then. And I’d get in some soft pretzels to eat, with spicy mustard, just to make everything right.
