The thing I was *supposed* to have said first
Um, yeah. Oops. Official word: I start work (paid-job-type-work) tomorrow. I will be a Quality Manager at a medium-sized company that provides “Complete architectural, engineering, environmental analyses and property survey services for commercial, government, institutional and healthcare industries” (the words are from their website). I’ll mostly be working with the local part, that builds and […]
getting ready to take the plunge
…back into the job world. I’ve reviewed the benefits materials and decided on my choices, barring a few questions I still have to ask. I’ve decided what to wear, barring last-minute changes of mind. (Navy sheath dress, slightly lighter blue linen cardigan, muted red shoes, probably a red handbag (actually, it’s a knitting bag – […]
the daily round
The book work is nearly done until proofs begin arriving. I’ve vetted the cover and the catalog copy, finished the Author Questionnaire and only need to write and link to a couple more blog posts. (Glad I didn’t rush into those, because yesterday evening I figured out a great way to explain process systems clearly.) […]
I have a book cover, look! Also, I had to laugh: the check for the second half of my advance came today (yay for prompt paying!) and apparently I am on the Success Bus: (Apparently that’s what happens when you abbreviate “Successful Business Process Management”) (And because people keep asking whenever I mention it, the […]
first book post is up!
In case you were wondering: For anyone who wants to know what my book is actually about, I’m writing a few blogposts on the basics, in very basic terms. The first one, “What is a Business Process and Why Should I Care?” is here.
choosing an Author Photo
This is hard! It’s made a bit easier because Ted has all our photos organized in iPhoto so that I can just sort for the ones with my face, but still it’s a tough decision. First, of course, there’s ruling out all the photos of myself that I hate. (I’m not very photogenic; any photo […]
one small strike for book-cover diversity
Really, really pleased with my publisher AMACOM right now. Their original concept for my book cover showed four hands, all pale-skinned; I asked them to make the skin colors more diverse and they said yes!
I have a funny feeling about this…
My to-do list for today goes: 1. Finish revising book per Ted’s edits 2. Send book to editor (one mega-Word file, separate .ppt file for each graphic) 3. Erg 18km 4. Get book printed out, send that to publisher. 5. Figure out who it was who asked me about job opportunities for their friend the […]
Recovering
Main goal for today: make the bed, because when you spend this much time in it, you really notice all the shed people- and cat-hair. And maybe I’ll eat something (total for the last 24 hours: some berries and a soft pretzel Ted brought me from the Philadelphia airport, eaten over the course of the day […]
