With the new role at work, I won’t be supervising my group of eight people any more. With the ones in the Netherlands, I’ve been having weekly calls with each person; I’m doing one last call to sort of say goodbye and thanks, and to make sure there are no issues with the new configuration.
(Also, to point out that in the quality role I’ll still be hassling them on a regular basis.)
Yesterday one guy was talking about his initial concerns with having an overseas manager, and said “But I had much less concern at the end of this time than at the beginning.”
Today, someone just told me that “In a way you were the best direct manager I ever had, with the weekly contact and all.” The weekly meetings were actually something I needed to do specifically because of not being right there beside them, but still, awwww….
And also shucks.
