minor glitches

Back when I was living in Houston, we used to socialize a lot within our rowing club, and when someone moved out of town we’d usually have some sort of good-bye party, usually at a bar somewhere. One memorable night, the guest of honor didn’t make it to his own party. We’d certainly told him about it, checked the date with him and all that, but apparently he had some sort of conflict and just didn’t show up. No matter, the rest of us enjoyed ourselves. I never did find ou quite why he didn’t show.

I think I can top that story now. Apparently my current department decided to have a goodbye meeting for me, with coffee and cake. (I have seen the invitation.) My boss asked several times if I’d be able to make it to a “staff meeting” today. They invited everyone, from the VP down. They forgot only one thing: no one actually invited me.

Oops, two things: apparently no one actually reserved the conference room, either, and they’re all milling about in the hallway right now.

Twenty minutes later: Once they found a room, it was nice. They got a cake (chocolate, with whipped cream icing, so either someone knew what I like or it was a lucky guess) and presented me with a card and a basket full of Arizona mementoes. So overall, it was a very nice good-bye meeting …. just maybe a little flawed in execution.

  1. Oh, that’s funny! I once sent out a big invitation to my work group for a surprise bridal shower — and included the bride. Such a nice surprise to get an invitation to your surprise shower.

LOL! That made me giggle 😀
