getting ready

I guess my taper is working. I was walking around the perimeter of our campus with a couple of coworkers and after a while I just couldn’t stand how slowly they were walking. I had to take off on my own. They were speaking in Dutch that I couldn’t understand, so it was a bit boring anyway. (I’m firmly convinced they don’t mean to be rude, and if they switch to English all the time I don’t get to practice my Dutch. If it sounds interesting I ask questions.) I think it was mostly about a banana one guy was eating, so I doubt I missed much.

Tonight Roieste and I will be getting in one last row before the race. I really have no idea where we’re supposed to be Saturday, where we pick up racenumbers, how far ahead of time we start, or any of it. There seems to be a lot less information on the website than I’m used to – no scheduled times, for instance. Ted’s partner seems to know our start times but I have no idea where we get them. I can’t really tell how much of the apparent lack of organization is just me not understanding what is there, or them not having to write down things “everybody” knows. I guess I’ll just show up and see what happens, and not try to figure things out in advance. I am very glad to be doing this race in a double, with someone who speaks Dutch and is familiar with how things work. I think Rudder’s a bit nervous about his singles race Sunday, but at least he gets to race the double first to figure everything out.

On the radio front, I’ve begun turning it off whenever my colleagues go out for a meeting. If they get pleasaure from it, that’s one thing, but I don’t see why I should have to listen to it when they’re not here. (The fourth person in here doesn’t seem to care either way, but I did check with him before turning it off.)

And perhaps the radio being off when they return will be a subtle hint… Good luck with the race!
