These are possibly the coolest knitted things I’ve seen, except for possibly the knitted DNA model by the same designer.
And while I’m handing out virtual prizes, here’s the goofiest news story I’ve come across recently, though I daresay having a giant aircraft abandoned in the middle of s street in a major city is not a trifling inconvenience.
Back to the yarn thread (sorry), I think I will not be buying any yarn for some time, unless for traveling-project socks or a specific needed present. Currently I have a half-complete sweater, Meadow Flowers lace shawl, and Trellis & Vine wrap on the needles; Yarn bought last weekend for a baby-blanket; yarn for three other sweaters for me (Manos cardigan, fitted sweater from Knitters’ Stash in cotton, sleeveless scotton weater hat will probably be one from Pure & Simple); all that yarn I got for Christmas and Chanukah (except for the brown Wildfoote, in which I cast off most of one sock on the way to work this morning); and yarn for one additional pair of socks. I do not need more yarn at the moment. (I do not, I do not, I do not.) Except maybe for more socks.
The amusing part of this is that my yarn stash sits in one plastic bin, plus an extra shopping bag. I could probably jam it all into the bin. By knitters’ standards, that’s downright miserly. But I’ve never had much urge to buy yarn unless I have a specific project in mind for it. My yarn jones last fall was from fear I’d finish a project and not have another ready to start, not from plain acquisitive urge. (well, I did have cotton yarn for two of the sweaters mentioned above but at that point I was still expecting a cold winter and really wanted wool).
I do hope I can finish this second sock and the baby blanket before we go to the US at the end of June, where I will see the people they’re for. That’s eight weeks, and it includes one short plane trip (London), several 1-hour train rides (assorted day trips), a couple of long-ish car rides (Paris, southern Oregon to Sacramento), one long plane trip (to the US), and one medium plane trip (CA to PA) so I think I’ll have plenty of time. Come to think of it, I hope I have enough reading material for all that traveling! I think I do, and anyway if not at least a lot of it is in places where books and magazines in English are easy to find.
