Done (no spoilers)

Just under twelve hours after picking the book up, done. (there were a few short breaks). I will be rereading it immediately, I think, though I may skip a bit; this one felt like a thorough read-though rather than a mad scramble; I’m sure I missed things but I doubt it was anything major. I did note some logic inconsistencies, but will list them in a future post. I’m still digesting the bok and not ready to talk much about it yet, but I will say that there were gasps and tears and exclamations from me during parts of it (unfortunately I began the most dramatic part while reading out in public, waiting for my take-out meal to be ready. I don’t think anyone noticed, fortunately).

I’m proud to say that I did over 10K on the erg (a piece with changing rates) before I headed off to the bookstore. Even so I got there about 20 minutes before it opened (yes, I got up early *and* rowed; I am a Very Good Girl) ; there were maybe ten people in line before me. As more people showed up they displayed the classic Dutch total inability to queue, joining the head instead of the tail of the line or standing beside rather than in it. It would have been extremely annoying, but fortunately there were only 20 people or less and I got my book with almost no wait – the store didn’t even make us tell them if we had books on order. I confess I succumbed to the lure of packaging and bought a deluxe edition. The an hour or so later I was surprised by the doorbell. Apparently my limited Dutch skills came back to bite me; instead of reserving a book online I had apparently ordered one. So now I have a regular editino as well as the deluxe one, and I need to decide what to do about it.

One of the reading breaks was to turn the heel of my sock; I can do the rest while reading, but turning takes concentration to make sure I don’t screw up my count. Coincidentally, I finished the heel flap (it’s toe up so the flap is the last part of the heel) just as I finished the book.

Yesterday I nipped out of work a titch early and stopped by the yarn store in the town where I work; at the SnB on Wednesday night, the knitters there told me that store was pretty good and I picked up some yarn for future socks. Lorna’s Laces, unfortunately, but I got some Regia (gray 4-fadig and white silk/wool blend) and some Meilenweit cotton/wool blend, so with the Regia and Rowan I got at Liberty of London a few months ago I’m well-supplied even if my productivity shoots up unexpectly (not likely for the next month, but we do have lots of travel in cars and trains and airplanes after that). Here’s the new yarn and the current sock:
