packing decisions again

Since I leave Sunday for an extended stay in the Netherlands, I’ve been thinking all week about how to pack for a month or more in just 25 kilos. If anything, the clothes are a less difficult challenge than the knitting and the books for this long a trip. I just realized something: since I’m traveling alone this time I will not be knitting in the car (except maybe toward the end, if I’m still there when Rudder comes out). That means there’s no need to keep things particularly simple. I had been planning to take several pairs worth of sock yarn, because socks are so portable; to allow for choice I’d planned on the mate to the sock I expect to finish today, a heavier pair for Rudder, and yarn for one or two of the patterns I want to knit from the Favorite Socksbook. Bu I have been doing a lot of socks and it occurs to me that I have both yarn and pattern for a lace shawl, and that those pack nearly as small as socks.

Hm. Maybe the shawl and a pair or two of socks.

The real problem here is that I just don’t have time or knitting speed enough to do all the projects I want to do, and if I have more than a couple going at once nothing gets finished. Finishing an item and getting to wear it or give it away is definitely the best part of this craft for me; I guess I’m more a project knitter than a process one.
