I am having a bad stuff day.
This morning I put on a pair of khaki pants. Now: I’d tried to wear these Monday, only to have a button pop off. Not having time to effect repairs, I changed to other trousers for the day and affixed the button that night. Tuesday I decided to send the khakis and a few other items to the hotel laundry (v. expensive but I get reimbursed), and they were returned Tuesday night. Tihs morning I decided to wear them. Pulled the pants off the laundry’s hanger, put them on, bent down to pull a sweater from the drawer, heard r-r-r-r-rip!
Damnit. That wouldn’t be much of an issue at home, but here those are a large fraction of my lower wardrobe. I only have two other pair of trousers that aren’t jeans here. At least I can wear jeans to work. I will probably go looking for a replacement this weekend (I think Esprit is my best bet, since they carry short lengths in some styles) and if I can’t find a pair, well, getting all my stuff home just got a little easier.
Then this morning I came to work, started typing, looked at my hands and noticed the ring I got in Rhodos has one hinge missing. So add a jeweler to the list of weekend errands. I may either get my pearls restrung while I’m at it, or visit the bead store for materials and try again to do that for myself; I did check in one store and they cost to restring them was 45 euros, which seems too high. I did strong them self last time, but the ends of the string have crept out of the pearls they were tucked into and the whole thing seems a bit fragile. Stringing materials are cheap, so I think I may try again to do it myself, and if I’m not pleased with the results, get it redone once I’m back in Taipei, where labor is much cheaper and pearls are everywhere.
GAH! While I was offline your birthday came and went! You know I wish you a Happy Belated, but I feel dopey anyhow even though circumstance was beyond my control.
I have now caught up and A) am delighted you got to row along a springtime canal in a place which I think invented spring, B) like your poem very much, I tend not to comment on most folks’ ‘creative works’ simply because they are the most personal and heartfelt and should be enjoyed and not critiqued like a meme or something, C) am awestruck that you’d take on restringing your pearls yourself. Fix a washing machine? No prob. Trust my pearls to my chancy handiwork? Not in this life.
I’m sorry to hear about your khakis, I had my fave soft 12oz denims go asunder on Monday so I can really relate. Though I am not traveling nor under weight restriction my selection of comfy well-fitting bottoms is skerce these days and damn Old Navy for changing their cut and fabric in the same season!
Whew! I seem to be chatty and quite ejaculatory tonight. In any case, again I wish you a Happy Birthday and a coming year of great personal gains in which unthought of goals are surpassed and happy accidents lead to delicious treats.
Much love, ~LA
