snow!

It’s not that I haven’t been writing lately, just that it’s been over on the other site.

It’s been snowing or sleeting now and then since late last week, but without any accumulation – it’s been wet snow and the ground has been just warm enough to melt it all. This morning when we went to breakfast, there was a bit of white showing, on the roofs and the grass and cartops. By the time I left for work it had started again and was coming down hard – hard enough to be piling up on the street and obscuring visibility. Within five or ten minutes, though, the sun came out and then suddenly surprising amounts of snow were coming out of a blue sky. Very odd. It tapered off a bit as I drove but was still snowing a little by the time I got to work. Thank goodness I have a short drive with no freeways – the boss, who has a long commute, says it took him two hours.

I had my camera with me, so tried taking pictures out the car window whenever I was stopped, but unfortunately I didn’t get stopped in the right place to shoot any daffodils with their little snow-helmets. I haven’t looked yet to see if any of the shots show the snow and the blue sky well.

As I was leaving this evening, I looked out of the window at the clear blue sky to the north and said to my coworkers, “Well, at least I won’t have to drive him in any more snow!” Uh-huh. An then I swung west out of the parking arage and saw that ominous dark cloud …. and three minutes later, there it was again.

I can’t figure out if someone’s out to get me, or trying to be nice and and give me plenty of nice cool winter weather while I’m here in the temperate zone.

Unfortunately, this varying weather doesn’t seem to be helping Rudder, who has just come down with a cold. For once I don’t much care if I get it, as long as I don’t get anything requiring an actual doctors visit, because I really don’t want to have to figure out the intersection of Taiwanese health indsurance and Dutch medical care. Nonetheless, thiis a Very Bad Thing, because he has a race this weekend – in fact, this time I’d even take it for him if I could. Hopefully it will be a light one and will go away quickly with extra rest.
