Typhoon day off yesterday – that was nice. I was on my own, since Rudder left for the Netherlands. My wrists hurt now, though.
Note to self: spending day playing Facebook Scramble on laptop (or on Rudder’s computer which is too high and has insufficient keyboard / mouse shelf) = bad idea. And knitting doesn’t help.
At least I also did laundry.
I made progress on my sock, too – I’m almost up to the gusset (of a toe-up sock). I keep stopping to admire how very well the boats on the foot have come out. I do have one problem, though: I’d like to post this pattern, when I’m done, most probably as a PDF either on Ravelry or posted here and linked from Ravelry. The problem is that I need cable charts. I have downloaded a knitting front on my home Mac. I can create PDF files on my work PC. What I can’t do is download a font on my work computer (rather I can download the font, but when I try to install it I get a message that Windows is using this file, try again later) and I can’t create PDF files on my Mac. And I can’t create the file on the Mac, mail it over and PDF it because if the PC doesn’t have that font it will change the knitting symbols to something else. I would really rather not buy Adobe Acrobat for the Mac just for this. Any other suggestions?
Could you use Open Office? It’s a free software that, among other things, gives you the option of saving some other file as a pdf.
What word processor are you using on the Mac? I know both WordPerfect and MSWord will generate .pdf files, for example. I don’t have Acrobat at home but I do have WordPerfect, so I make my pdfs with it.
There are also some free programs that will make pdfs for you. I think the Ravelry wiki has information on some of those.
