  • The Ice Hotel and Stockholm photos are up here, if you haven’t seen them already.
  • I mentioned the other day that I’d been asked to lead a new project – turns out that’s not quite right. We’re reorganizing my department and they made me lea dof one of the five teams that make up the department, so I’ll have actual direct reports. We’re still shaking down and figuring out how it all works.
  • I bought my dress for my brother’s wedding. I didn’t mean to – this was supposed to be just the first scouting trip to see what’s out there. But it’s pretty and very flattering and somewhat Chinese-inspired, it fits perfectly, and it didn’t seem likely I’d find something I liked better. (Actually I was hoping for something more spectacular, like say a beaded short swingy dress in black and red. This one is calf-length very dark red silk with a fitted top and flaed skirt. More pretty than spectacular, but it *is* very flattering and it’s probably better not to wear something flashy at someone else’s wedding anyway. (And the bride is a tall, slim redhead, so she’ll probably have the market cornered on spectacular, anyway, as is only proper.)) So much for the fun of shopping for formal dresses. There are still shoes to buy, but that’s not going to be very hard; the only tricky part will be finding high heels that are comfortable.
  • I erged today! Third day in a row, but I’m only managing short distances (5km / 9km / 5.5 km) and my times are a lot slower. I was supposed to be tapering down from the most strenuous part of the training now, but even the taper calls for much longer distances than I’ve been doing.
  • I’m still not happy with the poem I posted a few days ago. It invites a response of sanctimonious nods and a feeling that of course all right-thinking people are against oppression, but not thoughts about “how might I be part of a continuing problem? what can I do to make myself better?” I have not yet figured out how to fix this.

    This happens to be a long link, because I received an ad today. I have foot issues, as I may have mentioned, and the best shoes I have bought over the last ten years have come from Old Pueblo.

    It’s where I bought the sandals I wore to my son’s wedding — gold “strappy” shoes with an inch-and-a-half heel.
