something I’ve been meaning to do

My uncle sent me this photo a while ago, and I’ve been meaning to post it. Chaz’s post of his mother’s photo finally pushed me into it, because there’s nothing like peer pressure fro a fictional character.

This is my great-grandmother (we called her Nana, I think because my mother and uncle did – you can imagine the cognitive disconnect when I first encountered Nana the dog in Peter Pan or even Katie Nana at the beginning of Mary Poppins) holding my grandmother. I think Grandmom is a year old or less, so the picture is from 1912 or early 1913. If I can find the portrait of my grandmother as a young adult I’ll post that too.

I don’t think I look at all like Nana; there’s a slight resemblance to my grandmother, and a definite one to my mother, but my looks are pretty much a family amalgam. The scariest thing was the time I put a photo of myself through an image converter that produced a male version, and found myself looking at my brother’s face.

How cool! I’m not sure if any of the family pics on my Da’s side survived the war and the exodus to the US, I never saw any, but there was a communion pic of my maternal grandmother at age 7 with most of her siblings taken in front of the teeny centuries old stone church in their village. With 14 kids in the pic the church was hardly visible! ~LA
