second try at cross-posting

First one didn’t work, not sure why.

I think this is a new record for me in Taiwan: *four* social engagements in a week. Three are with the same people, though: one regular monthly dinner, one indoor dragonboat practice, one real dragonboat practice. The fourth is my boss’s wife coming over so I can demonstrate some beading techniques.

Also, some quick notes on Taiwan experiences:
1. If you ever wondered how aging and formerly-popular musicians survive, apparently they come here. Air Supply will be performing here again in the near future – last year’s concerts were sold out.
2. Monday night’s dinner was with some Dutch expats, a traditional Taiwanese banquet, where a bunch of dishes are put out on a giant turntable for everyone to share. We left the restaurant sooner than I ever have before seen a Dutch group get up from dinner because a nearby table full of (apparently) drunken salesmen was bein entertainingly but deafeningly loud. They kept playing some sort of finger game, like the one where you each put out a number of fingers and bet on whether they’ll be odd or even. Much shouting was involved. Then we went down the street and had coffee in a restaurant with tinkly piano music in the background. Quite a contrast. Just to round out the evening from a sonic perspective, the taxi driver who took me home was playing the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack album. (I bet a GeeGees concert would do well here, too.)
