awake, dammit

This sleeping thing is …not going so well. Possibly not coincidentally, right before turning off the light, I read (in Flow, see earlier post for more discussion) a whole host of possible symptoms of perimenopause, including among others insomnia, dizziness, vertigo, migraine ….. Oh. Yeah.

Also, Ted keeps snoring, which doesn’t help. He threw his back out on Saturday, and it’s still tender, so he’s probably sleeping flat on his back more than usual.

While I’m up, I was thinking about talking points for the speech I need to make next week. I intend it as my farewell to the Toastmasters group; my topic is “How to be an expat”. Three rules:

1. Don’t be afraid to look stupid.
2. Don’t be afraid to not be in control of your life.
3. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.

I could probably write an entry here on each of those (and maybe I will to figure out how I want to talk about them). But they also add up nicely to a conclusion: Don’t be afraid. Moving to a new country where you don’t understand the language or the customs is scary, but it could also be the best experience of your life.
