you can get anything you want – but can you knit it?

I. I am Doooooomed. Today we bought the yarn for Ted’s Sapporo sweater. I just took a look at the recommended needle size and learned this pattern is knitted with &(^%#@ sock needles – seriously, it’s written for 2.5-3.5mm needles, which is US sizes 1.5 to 4. ANd I will be knitting this in size XL. Oh woe, waily waily….
(Maybe he isn’t getting it for *this* year’s birthday.)

II. Today in the port town of Hoorn we passed an old church – one possible old enough to have been originally a Catholic church and converted to Dutch Reformed – that now houses stores. At dinner we were discussing other possible uses for old churches. I ask you, how can anyone talk about the idea of converting a church to housing and not channel Alice’s Restaurant??
