It was a nice quiet weekend, and I can tell I needed it – I slept until 9:30 both days, which is unusually late for me even on a weekend. (Only problem is, that didn’t help me get enough sleep last night!)
It’s a very quiet week around here, since about half the company (and the country) are out on holiday. No, that doesn’t mean I can catch up on sleep during work.
As planned, I got a fair bit of knitting done over the weekend; the cabled border of my Wombat blanket is more than halfway done. (I quit working on that around May when it got too hot; fall seems to have settled in now.) I also cast on for the Norwegian sweater for Ted, which will take at least the next several months. A whole large sweater done on size 3 needles – what was I thinking? (Answer: I wasn’t – I didn’t check gauge before deciding to embark on the project.)
Also, yesterday I finally got out on the water – the last time was two weeks ago just as I was getting sick, and the time before that was another 2 weeks due to the storm damage. I did erg on Friday, which went OK. I am definitely not back firing on all cylinders, though; my body was OK (though oddly sore in the hip joints today) but my brain turned to mush about halfway through. It’s hard to describe but is a very identifiable sensation, and doesn’t do much for my technique. The good news is, my friend Rebeccmeister will be making a flying visit next weekend, since she’s in Europe for a conference. One of the rowers in our quad is injured at the moment, so we’ll get her in there. This will give the rest of us and our cox a chance to finally all practice together, and will let R. and my friends here build connections, which are always useful. You never know when you’ll need to borrow a boat or put together a composite crew at a regatta somewhere *cough*Torino 2013*cough*.
