I took today off from work with a sore throat, and also a tiny fever (100F last night, 99 now), not so much because I was deathly ill as because I am hoping that a rest day will help me avoid becoming deathly ill. I have been self-medicating all day with lots of time in bed and lots of tea.
I want to be back at work tomorrow not least because I ordered the vlaai yesterday, to be delivered tomorrow according to Dutch birthday traditions, and it would be awkward if I weren’t there to share it. (If necessary, I suppose I could call reception and ask them to call an officemate instead of me when it arrives, but that would be a bit weird.) So it’s been a very quiet day here, with a little knitting and a lot of reading and not much else.
Good things: Mechaieh figured out how to give me pretzels for my birthday, which I thought was very cool (and an especially appropriate way to do it since I keep saying I should eat less of them myself.) And in more general good news, a young woman online acquaintance of mine just got her first college acceptance – she’s been through stuff no 18-year-old should have to deal with, and I’m kind of proud that the This is What a Feminist Knits Like group on Ravelry has been able to support her both emotionally and in more concrete ways (specific advice, proofreading) through some of this.
