How I planned to spend today:

Vegetate (physically) on the couch, while reading over something for a friend, filling out some forms,and writing an essay
Make jambalaya
How I actually spent today:
Got up early (for a Sunday) and took a train to Amsterdam
Took a tram to Leidseplein
Met up with Ted’s cousin, who has a few days in Amsterdam at the beginning of a trip as part of a grad school class
Took her to the Royal Palace on the Dam Square, then the Amstelkring
Was disappointed in the latter – I remember it as glorious, with gold leaf everywhere and spectacular treasures. It isn’t like that now, and I’m not sure how much of that is due to the ongoing renovation
Went to lunch
Sat there for two hours, swapping family stories and gossip
Walked cousin back to her hotel
Took tram and train home
Decided on way home from station to stop for steak dinner
Made jambalaya afterward, to have for during the week
It seems like a pretty good trade-off, except for not getting to row, now that the ice has finally melted. However, to set against that, we walked about 6 km during the course of the day.
I’m glad Ted’s cousin had a good visit. Must have been good playing catch up about family and friends. ~LA
