Because I just came across the following, during a brief break.
The Children of the Lamp is a fun and often silly kids’ fantasy series by PB Kerr. I knew there was a reason I kept reading it. Quoted for truth, from somewhere in the middle of the fifth book, The Fakirs of Fazabad:
“The meaning of life,†said Mr. Burton. “I asked him what it was.â€
“And what did he say?â€
“He said that there is no one meaning that suits everyone. He said that there are as many answers to that question as there are people in the world, because it’s a different answer for everyone. But that once you recognize that fact, then all questions are answered.â€
Also, I am reminding myself, after this weekend and in the next week or two, we plan to adopt a cat or kitten. Or maybe two – I want either one cat that prefers to be alone or an already-bonded pair. One of the local pet-fostering groups brings a bunch of its animals to a local pet store on Saturdays; we’ll be gone this week but I want to go next week. Another one has an adoption event at the other local pet store on March 9-10 (in time for my birthday!). And I need to check back at the nearest shelter, too.
Paula,
I just stumbled onto this web site that I thought you’d enjoy if you haven’t already found it:

About pets, I can’t imagine living a house alone if I were a pet. I always say two is better than one, they need company, although some cats put on an independent facade… I still think two is always better. But aren’t you both away a lot? How can you have pets if you travel or go away? They really need you 24/7/365 and not just when you’re home in between trips. They get lonely when you aren’t there.
