oof

Apparently my body really didn’t want to do a 2K erg test today, because not only did the test piece itself feature dry-heaving, but now I have a migraine aura and can’t see out of my left eye. Fortunately, for me the aura doesn’t generally lead to a real full-blown migraine, just a minor ache at most (knock wood!).

On the plus side, I finished it in 7 seconds less than my last test, at the beginning of January. I suspect this is less due to the actual training program and more just to the experience – before the one in January I hadn’t done a full-out ovaries-to-the-wall test in years, and it’s not a distance I usually race at. This time I knew what average split I should shoot for.

Oddly, my mas heartrate this time, was 193. Last time it was only 183, and I’d been using that as my max for calculating heartrate zones to shoot for in the workout, because that was pretty close to what it was measured at when I did a test years ago. It’s supposed to go down as you age, not up! During the workouts, I’ve actually not been hitting the predicted HR at the set paces anyway; if I put these new numbers in, I think I’m even less likely to hit them (though the workout calculator will also be telling me to go at a faster pace). I suspect my heartrate just has an odd curve, possibly due to being on blood pressure meds.

Anyway, the aura is already fading, but it’s a good thing I wasn’t planning on going anywhere today anyway. (I need to stay home for the plumber and other house-fixing people, and to receive a couple of packages because it turns out that UPS is just as annoying as last time I lived in the US.)
