beading!

Aside from a spot of laundry, filing, studying, and weightlifting, my plans for the day involved a pleasant stretch of reading and playing around. For the first time in a long while, I spent the morning playing with beads, and here are the results.

I don’t usually name jewelry, but this one is “Ghosts in Winter”. The middle few beads of this necklace have been linked and sitting around for months, but I just added the extra beads and silverwork to the centerpiece today, not to mention the rest of the necklace. The center bead is dichroic glass, the rest includes glass, opaline glass, an opal chip or two, crystal, and silver. Because clear beads are especially tricky to photograp, I used the good camera and there’s one view with flash and one without.

Here’s a closeup of the centerpiece – everything but the basic link was added today. There’s a dangling little spiral you can’t see in this picture, but it shows the dichroic flash nicely:ghost_necklacectr.jpg

I’ll probably keep this for myself. It’s too small for most other people anyway, I think, but I don’t wear low-cut collars much and longer necklaces tend to slide inside my shirt and not show.

I finished off with an earring and pendant set – not sure what all’s in here but it’s all metal/rock/mineral, not glass. There’s silver, a tiny opal chip, and I think the rest is mostly aquamarine. There are also a pair of lavender earrings that I think are agate or jasper; they’re definitely Beads of the Month stones, anyway. I’ll likely give or trade all these away at some point.

Next up: reading and popcorn, then on homework and to hopefully finish the sleeve of my sweater tonight. I will flare it after all, because it looked good when I faked that effect by spreading the stitches out on the needle.

How lovely! Such a good eye you have for balance and color. I get many compliments on the piece you made for me. It’s my favorite turtleneck jewelry and I’ve been wearing it A LOT since winter finally showed up. ~LA

Very nice jewelry. At one time in my life, when I was in between husbands for almost 10 years, I frequented a really great store in Salem called Pyramid Books – it had loads of gems, minerals, rocks, etc, and I used to buy them and make jewelry for myself. Now I’m not so much into wearing any jewelry, but I love the stones just the same.
