It looks like a bunch of books by Charles Williams, about whom I’d been mildly curious, as well as several Doctor Doolittle books include some I haven’t read, are now available online. The downside, due to extended US copyright laws, is that they’re posted in Australia, with no legal US access. And then I remembered…
… I’m not in the US. Whee!
Notes:
Practical: Those books marked “Not available in the US” actually can be accessed there. While I do believe in an author’s right to his/her own work, I find it hard to feel guilty about looking at an electronic version of a book I already own. Or one I can’t buy because it’s out of print and anyway the author’s dead and wouldn’t benefit from pressure to put it back in print.
Disclaimer: However, it is illegal, thanks to the mouseketeers responsible for US copyright laws.
We ended up not being able to row yesterday. After the spring breath of Saturday, the weather abruptly changed, and yesterday was cold and very windy. There were even a few spells of hail. I was supposed to meet my partner to take out a double and Rudder was going to take out a single. The time when we were supposed to meet was one of the calmer period of the day, so we did bike to the boathouse to look at conditions. Even then, though, the wind was so strong that we hardly had to pedal riding to the boathouse, and riding home into the wind was so difficult that we were very glad not to be on the water. Once home, we popped in the X-men movie, which neither of us had seen, and erged (half-marathon for Rudder, 10K for me. I’m a weenie). We invited my double partner home to use the weights or ergs and stay for dinner, but she had dinner plans and doesn’t like erging. (What’s liking got to do with it?? She’s been running a lot though, so isn’t short on exercise.) We’re supposed to try the double again Tuesday evening, but I don’t have high hopes about the weather then.
Oh – and after peeking at Charles Williams’ book War in Heaven, I’m very glad I didn’t spend money on it.
