I still find it hard to believe I live in Europe

Last night I booked hotel reservations in Bruges (Brugge) for this week, Amsterdam for four weeks from now, Paris for five weeks from now. Some days life amazes me.

In other good news, as of yesterday I have a whole stack of unread books. In English! Actually, I already did have a stack of unread books. But now I have more of them!I am willing to discuss the idea that this may be hoarding behavior, rather than just liking to read. I am not willing to discuss any suggestion that this is somehow an unnecessary purchase. Because otherwise I might run out of new things to read! And the fact that more than half of my book choices are rereads does not negate the fact that this would be a Very Bad Thing! It’s sort of like asecurity blanket, only this is a security stack. Don’t worry, it may be an addictive vice, but it’s not like I’m blowing the food budget on books. And if I ever spent the rent money at a bookstore, maybe I could build myself a little biblio-igloo.

In other news, I want to participate in International Pixel-Stained Technopeasant Day on April 23. I’m far from SFWA-eligible, of course, but I still like the spirit of the idea. Only problem is, I don’t really have anything terribly appropriate. Help me decide? The choices are:

  • a new short short story – no guarantee of quality.
  • A new short-short story (no guarantees on quality)
  • a new poem (ditto)

  • one of my older (IMO) poems, already posted online but long ago (maybe Jubilate or Sarah Whistles)
  • The pattern for the sweater I’m working on – but my size only. I don’t mind doing the math to figure other sizes, but I don’t think this yarn is available elsewhere anyway, and I have no intention of doing the test-knitting of other sizes.
  • a new professional article: I’m thinking of “So you’re on a process-improvement project” as a working title.
  • Merciful silence.

One Response to I still find it hard to believe I live in Europe

My favorite of the responses was the one pointing out ‘DR’ Hendrix is a terrible writer. The poster had a hard time getting through to the meat of Hendrix’ rant because of the horrible writing and excessive folderol. As one who likes to ball up a few choice words and chuck them like a brick, I applaud the commenter for zeroing in on the obvious. The guy is a bloviating hack. By all means let us all be wretches. ~LA
