I just learned that my latest poem (sorry, I won’t post it here unless I decide not to submit it anywhere) shares not only a title but also some story and even some of the themes as a book by Margaret Atwood. I’d swear I’ve never even heard of the Atwood book, and I’ve certainly never read it. I suppose “The Penelopiad” is a fairly obvious title if you’re writing about Odysseus’ wife.
I suppose what I should do is buy her book, because it sounds like something I’d like (much more than The Handmaid’s Tale, which I also haven’t read) … and change my title.
‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ is a fascinating concept, but the book itself is a bit of a slog. Maybe that other one would be speedier.
And there’s no denying the cosmic consciousness sometimes. Humans share more than they’re comfortable admitting to. ~LA
