a pretty good birthday weekend after all

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from it, what with us not really knowing anyone in the area but each other. But presents from both sets of parents arrived in the mail on Friday; yesterday we went and adopted two young female felines, names still TBD, whom we’ll bring home Wednesday or Thursday night after they’re tested for feline AIDS and leukemia and then went to BJs brewpub for dinner. Today we were thinking of going to the Portland Saturday Market, but the weather was on the cold and damp side, compared to the glories of yesterday, and we just didn’t feel like it. Instead we went to the Rice Mineral Museum, not far from home, which turned out to be fascinating and unexpectedly large for a museum in what had been someone’s house. Then we drove out to the Tualatin Estate Vineyard, only 20 miles or so away, and tasted a bunch of their wines, then finished up at PF Chang’s. (Yes, Portland is known for its food culture, but that doesn’t seem to apply this far out of town. There are lots of chains that are local, not national, but we just didn’t happen to go to those this weekend.)

And it was good.

Next up: repairs to the drywall tomorrow, then to the flooring Wednesday, then this house will finally be back in shape just in time for me to enjoy it and the kitties for a week before heading off to visit family.
