Look! On the left!
It’s my first crappy cellphone pic ever posted here! More importantly, my sweater is coming along nicely (the pic on the right is from last week, to show progress) and I’m absolutely pleased with the fit. All I have to do now is make it long enough, with a few more increases along the way because I want a slight flair. Moral: ribs are your friends.
This evening we’re back to the Netherlands for two weeks. I’m hoping to knit diligently and finish it on the plane or early in the trip, because for practical purposes, these two weeks are my ‘winter’ this year. The sweater is worsted-weight wool; it’s quite warm, so this is my best chance to get some wear out of it this year. So far I think it’s pretty flattering. The neck edge is a bit ragged, so I’ll probably crochet around it unless I decide I like the rough edge. The sleeves have flared nicely, though I’m not sure if that shows in the photos. I just want the body to drape and not cling to my gut or get hung up on my waistband, but I wanted a more aggressive flare in the sleeves, so I added a lot of stitches there. I’ve decided they’re long enough, which is convenient because it meant I could finally cut off the ball of yarn I’d left hanging from each sleeve in case I wanted to make them longer. I do hope I can finish this soon enough to wear it.
It looks awfully nice, especially on you!
It looks great!
I like it — the neck doesn’t look ragged, at least not in these shots. If you’re uncertain about the sleeve length, put extra length — as many as six or seven extra rows — in the ribbing at the wrist. (Always assuming that you’re putting ribbing at the wrist. Ahem.) I used to do this on kids’ sweaters, because the ribbing folded back on itself more neatly than onto the body stitching. As the kid grew, so did the sleeves.
