lazybones, sleeping in the sun….

Today is January 10 (which coincidentally means I am 40 and 5/6 years old. Five lazy sixths). What with the foot and the coughing and the nose-blowing and all that, I have been on the erg exactly twice this year, for a mere 5km each time. Add in three weight sessions, taken lightly because of my foot, but still it’s not very much for being 10 days into the year.

I’m well enough now that I need to be thinking about this. My foot doesn’t hurt while walking today, for the first time in months. (I checked: it still hurts if I try to run or jump.) I wouldn’t say my lungs are 100%; possibly they may never be perfectly clear while I live in this level of humidity and pollution, and I expect both to be worse in summer. But I’m hardly coughing at all today and my sinuses feel clear. I tentatively planned to erg this morning, but it’s been a couple of hard days and we both elected to sleep instead. Maybe this evening, if we get home earlyish.

We hope to get on the water on Saturday for the time time here, so yay! for that. Rudder of course will be in his Empacher and it looks like I may be able to borrow a boat. I’m not sure if they’d put me in a single or in a boat with others, but whatever. (If I can’t, I guess I’ll hang out, take pictures, and maybe take the Empacher for a spin when he’s done.)

Still, this is fairly pathetic. I think I need a little extra motivation, so this year I’ve signed back up for Going Nowhere, with a goal for the year of 1000 km. I’ve stacked the dice to make it easy for myself; that’s only 20 km/ week for 50 weeks. A decent week of rowing for me is anything over 30 km, so this should be doable, but keep me from slacking too badly. I have not yet decided whether to count other methods of travel (walking, biking) into that distance – there’s a nice bike path right by us, along the river.
