Was I complaining too much last week about spending my evenings alone? Oops.
On Monday night, three of the women from my old department took me out for my birthday. (Dutch colleagues, Chinese food, ironically.) On Tuesday night I went out with several of the Taiwanese people here on business for someone else’s birthday. Wednesday was Stitch’n’Bitch (the cat is doing well in his new home – I got to see pictures!). Last night was sushi with the sae people from Monday, because at the previous dinner we realized that three of the four of us have spouses out of town. Tonight is cooking, laundry and Chinese instruction with some of the Taiwanese people. (I’m cooking, and I get to use someone’s washing machine.) Tomorrow I’m taking my old rowing partner out for a pre-regatta steak dinner and on Sunday I’ll ride up to Amsterdam with my old crew, where I’ll cycle along the course and cheer them on in the Head of the River (one of the biggest regattas in the Netherlands).
As the laundry tonight may indicate, I’ve decided to stay in the hotel instead of getting an apartment. I was given the option, but decided that the hotel breakfasts and gym and availability of extra parking for when Ted gets here outweighed the benefit of having a kitchen and washer.
I think I had more to write, but I’ve forgotten what it is and I have too many other things I have to go do right now!
