a whole bunch of pics (plus video!)

Here’s a bunch of images I’ve been wanting to share, and finally had time to process. (“Process” in this case meaning anything from learning to convert video format and use Youtube to uploading older photos to taking some new pictures.) Some of these will be cross-posted on Avontuur, sorry if you see them twice. First, video of my race last month – it’s just under five minutes, but honestly if you want to see what a rowing head race looks like, 30 seconds of it will likely suffice. The quality’s not great – I’ve only just learned how to convert a video to MPEG, so that could be part of why, though the original was also largely taken from farther away than optimal (and with Ted riding a bike while filming).

Next, some pictures from around the neighborhood. We took these in November, just never got around to uploading them. Click on the thumbnails to see larger versions.

In order, that’s the canal we row on, looking toward the city; the river that runs by our flat in its autumn plumage; me, obviously; the St. Catherina Kerk down the street from us; another church that was an 18th century abbey; the Centrum looking toward the St Catherina Kerk (this road, the part nearest us, is all bars, actually); and Rudder, with our apartment balcony behind him.

This is the medal I won in the race last month (my rowing partner just gave it to me today, the first time we’d seen each other since the race):medals.JPG.

Some knitting stuff – here are the socks I finished in December, too late to send for a present:socks.JPG. Here’s the scarf I did finish in time to give Rudder for his birthday scarf.JPG and the first of the gloves I’m currently working on for him. glove.JPG (I did actually finish that glove, but the fingers were so ludicrously too long – despite having tried them all on him – that I ripped out the hand, shortened each finger, and began again to join them.) And here’s the yarn I got for Chanukah and Christmas from both parents and in-laws: yarn.JPG. Apparently I sounded desperate 🙂

This is the piece of jewelry I bought in Rhodes, during the cruise. The bail can be rotated to use it as a ring ring1.JPG or a pendant ring2.JPG. There’s a bit of a mystery attached: apparently the mosaic is a copy of a famous Greek one (the ??? Princess) but I didn’t hear the woman clearly and stupidly, didn’t ask to have it repeated. I haven’t been able to find it on the web – does it look familiar to anyone? It’s a woman with long hair, walking, seen sideways, who appears to be wearing something like a war helmet.

Here’s what the corner of our living room now looks like:weights.JPG Do you think we could persuade visitors that the ergs are modern art sculpture?ergs.JPG (They usually live in the second bedroom, but were just hanging out in the living room while Rudder puts an Ikea wardrobe together in the bedroom.)
