We’re currently “wasting” a day in Istanbul, and I’m pretty happy about that. We left home midday Thursday, stayed overnight in Portland (one of our last stays at the Hillsboro townhouse, hopefully), caught a flight out Friday, spent a few hours Saturday in Schiphol and landed in Istanbul last night (Saturday).
We were supposed to fly out to Denizli at noon so we didn’t make any plans, but our flight was moved to 7pm. So we got a late checkout and we’re justing hanging out in the hotel all day. It’s close (ish) to the airport so there’s nothing much to do unless we head into Istanbul proper, an hour or so away, and we just … aren’t doing that. Tonight we’ll fly to Denizli, spend another hour driving to our hotel in Pamukkale and tomorrow starts two weeks of sightseeing though western Turkey and then Istanbul itself. Then we fly out at o’dark thirty and travel two days to get home.
Downtime is much appreciated.
