sleep-dep fuzzy-brain

I was seriously thinking of bailing on rowing yesterday – I was tired and fuzzy-brained after work, and I haven’t been sleeping well. But yesterday was nice and cool after the heat of last week, and temperatures are due to rise again so I forced myself to go and take advantage of the weather.

I was right about the fuzzy-brainedness, though. I managed to forget to bring my white hat, my ponytail band, my mirror, and my sports bra. The hat wasn’t such a problem; I had my blue one and the sun wasn’t blazing down so that was OK. The hat kept hair off my face, and my hair is only just down to the bottom of my neck, not enough to be a real problem. I really do hate rowing without a mirror, though – rowers face backward, so without a mirror you’re constantly having to check over your shoulder and the short glimpses don’t really give the full view a mirror provides.

The sports bra was probably more of a problem for any onlookers than for me. I don’t really sag, and rowing is a no-bounce sport so it’s not uncomfortable to go without one, but it is a little obvious when you’re wearing a single layer of spandex. Fortunately the uni I was wearing is not a pale color, and though it zips down the front the zipper stays where I put it without slipping. Still, I’m sure it was fairly obvious to anyone who might have been looking – and it was a little more embarrassing because two young teenaged males were having a rowing lesson at the same time. Oh well. They’re Dutch, they probably didn’t even notice. (Meaning, they have been surrounded from birth by some of the world’s most truly impressive racks.) As for any adults in the vicinity, I figure they can be responsible for guarding their own eyes, and it’s not like you’re close to anyone once you’re away from the dock.

For some reason I only got about four hours’ sleep last night. I don’t know why; I stayed up to watch the football game, but after that fortunately it was cool enough to shut all my windows, so noise wasn’t much of an issue. It’s probably a good thing I didn’t go row and maybe it’s even a good thing that I worked at home today.
