one end or the other (no, not *that*)

I really like the way yesterday’s poem turned out. If you haven’t seen it yet, scroll down one. I’ll wait.

My foot’s doing OK; I hardly used my cane at all this weekend. It’s not quite back to normal, though, as it informed me in no uncertain terms when I was so reckless as to run all of three steps in crossing a street. Given what airports are like and that I’ll be carrying a backpack, I think I will use the cane for our trip home tomorrow night.

On the other hand, now that my foot’s better my head’s giving me trouble. I’ve been having vertigo the last few days. I think it may have been brought on by the extreme change in climate. I’ve been coughing, too. Whatever caused it, it seems to be the same sort of vertigo I’ve had before, whch is good; it really only affects me when I make a big change to the angle of my head. It’s worst when I lay down or roll over in bed, which is the best time for it to be at its worst, in my opinion. Falling down isn’t much of a problem when you’re already laying down. Sitting up too fast can be an interesting experience, but then I just fall back onto the bed. So it shouldn’t be a big problem on the flight home, or if it is then I have much bigger problems than minor vertigo. Sudafed seems to help a bit, anyway,

I’m also hoping I don’t have weight problems with my luggage; I’ll be taking home two pair of wool slacks I’d left here, a box of candy for the office, and a few presents for Rudder, none of them very heavy. I had about 4 kilos to spare so I think I will be OK. If not I can carry on my laptop.

I’m looking forward to being at home, but not too much to getting there. It’s a 14 hour trip: ten hours on the plane, one in Bangkok, then another three on the plane. KLM’s food and movies are both fairly unimpressive even by airline standards. Rudder and I both slept 5 or 6 hours on the long flight coming here, which made it much more tolerable and also saved us from jetlag. I hope we can do the same going back.
