I used to dislike Facebook (and Twitter, even before it was X) because I liked reading about people’s lives in long form, with nuances and thoughts, not just quick peeks.
Eventually, FB became my main social media (other than Ravelry) just because that’s where everyone was.
More recently, I’ve begun to notice that my default Facebook feed is almost entirely ads and sponsored posts, with very few from actual people I know. I can choose to see a Friends feed (which takes scrolling down and several clicks on my laptop, though it’s easier on phone and tablet). Lately, though, that doesn’t make a difference: even the posts from real people are mostly shared memes or reposts of sponsored content.
Currently, it’s still useful for content from people I want to follow (authors, historians, comic artists), even if I don’t know them, and for groups I joined on purpose. I miss being able to connect to people, though.
